PPL is expanding its network of pick-up points with a new type of pick-up box that runs on solar energy and does not require an external electricity supply to operate. The new PPL Eco Parcelboxes can then operate even in the dark or in the winter months, and their charged batteries can operate for up to several months. If the battery does run out, it can be easily replaced, so the service continues to run without any interruptions. Thanks to their self-sufficiency and smaller size, they can also be installed where a conventional box could not previously be placed. The first 500 are already in place and more will be added.

The Solar Parcelboxes are the next step in PPL's ESG strategy. The acronym ESG stands for environmental, social, governance, an international concept for companies that consider the impact of their business on the environment, human society and fair management. As part of this approach, PPL has a long-standing commitment to emissions reduction and sustainable development: it has reduced CO₂ emissions per shipment by 12% year-on-year, operates over 140 alternatively powered vehicles and also delivers packages via cycle couriers in several city centres. In addition, the company operates over 250 of its own charging stations for electric vehicles.
