Over course of the past season, PPL managed to deliver a record-breaking 10 million parcels. This is in total 50 percent more parcels than last year. “Not only the season, but also the whole of last year was unusual for the whole of the logistics market, this being due to the current pandemic and the constantly changing government measures. All of this very often tested our capacity in the harshest way possible, but on the other hand, these challenges have led to several improvements and speeding up of projects. In order to maintain our level of quality despite these record-breaking numbers of parcels, delivery took place in to main waves, even during the evening,” says Petr Horák, CEO of PPL CZ.

Compared to the previous season, people did not leave their pre-Christmas shopping to the last minute and spread out their shopping more over time, which was a great help in the overall delivery process, says PPL in its current press release. During the past season, clients of PPL continued in the trend which forwarding companies have been registering over the course of the past few years – this being that they have parcels sent directly to pick-up points, so-called Parcelshops.

“More and more people are using this service and we expect the trend to continue in 2021,” adds Horák.

From the total volume, this concerned two million parcels which recipients had delivered to pick-up points from where they collected the parcels themselves. PPL currently has more than 2,300 Parcelshop partners throughout the whole of the Czech Republic. This offers lots of advantages for parcel recipients who can, for example, collect the parcel on their way home from work or whenever they have time. A lot of people welcome the fact that they have seven days to collect the parcel, this giving them freedom to collect it when they actually have time.
