The aim of the cooperation between PPL CZ and the Autoclub of the Czech Republic is primarily to enhance the safety of drivers on the road and to improve their ability to handle crisis situations, such as emergency braking, obstacle avoidance or aquaplaning. Special driver courses help reduce accidents and potential damage to the property and health of other road users.

"Road safety is a priority for us, and we pay maximum attention to improving it. Overall, preventive activities in this area are highly desirable and beneficial. Yet the legislative environment does not comprehensively cover the entire public in the context of quality education. However, socially responsible companies can train a broad group of drivers who are on the road every day and thus have a positive impact on accident statistics. I wish there were as many companies like PPL as possible," says Libor Budina, Director of the General Motoring Department of the Autoclub of the Czech Republic.

"Safety first is our motto at PPL. We are aware that our activities have an impact on the environment around us and society, so we try to behave as responsibly as possible. Our drivers are on the road every day, which is why we are extremely pleased to be able to offer them this unique opportunity to improve their skills behind the wheel and promote safe driving, both at work and in private," says David Voznička, Director of Operations of PPL CZ.

Training for PPL drivers

The training itself is divided into two parts. The first part includes an online test ending with a test of theoretical knowledge of the rules, crisis management and current legislation.

After the test, practical training sessions are held at Czech driving training centres throughout the year. In addition to theoretical training, drivers will also have a four-hour practical driving session where they will improve their ability to handle crisis situations.

"Driver education within the framework of the joint project deepens and complements drivers' knowledge, skills and habits behind the wheel. Ultimately, it benefits society as a whole. It has a positive effect on the level of potential damage to your own property, but also to the property and health of road users. One should remember that road traffic accidents in the Czech Republic cause economic and social losses reaching an incredible eighty billion crowns annually," explains Libor Budina

A pilot course was held in 2021, and a total of seven practical training courses for 200 PPL CZ drivers have been planned for 2022.

"Social responsibility is an integral part of our corporate culture. We are one of the leaders in the parcel market thanks to our activities and approach. At the same time, we are a sought-after employer and a reliable partner for carriers. In addition, the training activities are fully linked to our investments in reducing our carbon footprint, introducing alternative fuels and using renewable energy. Safe driving for our drivers with eco-driving elements is one of the essential parts of our sustainable strategy," concludes David Voznička.

PPL is also heedful of the education of its surroundings, so in September, in cooperation with partners, they organized their first ever Experience Day, attended by over 300 visitors. An interactive traffic ground with lessons on the rules of the road, a tour of the depot and trucks, a lecture on blind spots, skill rides on cargo bikes, demonstrations of electromobility, a car rollover simulator - all this at its depot in Zlín.

Dopravní noviny: Night excursion of logistics students to the new HUB of PPL CZ

The cooperation of the Department of Logistics with PPL CZ is not only about practical familiarization of students with the issues of KEB services by organizing professional lectures and seminars or elaboration of company topics for qualification theses. The most popular with students are always excursions to real operations.
