As part of its product called Balík pro tebe (Parcel for You), PPL is launching a new service which allows cash on delivery (COD) payment method for shipments sent by private individuals. The service will be used mainly by people who sell goods over the Internet, for example through popular online bazaars.

The area is growing even faster than traditional online shops, with private individuals already sending 10 million shipments a year. The company assumes that up to a third of them could now use cash on delivery. For online shops, cash on delivery represents 53% of purchases; annually in the entire market it is CZK 94 billion.

The sender can send the parcel from nearly 2000 PPL ParcelShops or call the PPL driver to come directly home. The money from the sent shipment will be received in the account within 7 business days of the payment of cash on delivery. The recipient will pick up the shipment at one of the delivery points or the driver will deliver it to his/her home. Thanks to this, the buyer and the sender avoid the queues and handle everything from the comfort of their home or on the way to work. In addition to cashless settlement, the advantage of the Balík pro tebe (Parcel for You) service is also the possibility of sending large packages weighing up to 31.5 kilograms. "The number of parcels between private individuals is increasing every year. At present, there are about ten million shipments per year. About a third of them could be paid by cash on delivery,” Petr Horák, Managing Director PPL CZ s.r.o.  explains the introduction of the service.

"Many people still perceive it as a certain risk to send money to an unknown account in advance and then wait to see if the goods bought through the online bazaar will actually arrive. We therefore want to offer people maximum comfort and service with this service. At present, we have supported contactless delivery, which includes cashless cash on delivery card payment for all our drivers and for the season also for a large part of our PPL ParcelShops,” adds Horák. The service is thus fully secure for both parties.

Online bazaars welcome the service
The service is intended primarily for people who sell and buy through web-based advertising portals. “Cash on delivery can motivate buyers to increase the number of purchases via advertising servers. For many people, sending money to an account before receiving the goods poses a certain risk, which will be reduced in the event of cash on delivery,” says Pavel Kolář, manager of Sbazar.cz, a server through which 200,000 sales transactions took place in the first three months of this year alone.

Czechs love cash on delivery
For goods from the Internet, cash on delivery is clearly the most popular method of payment. In orders from online shops this accounts for as much as 53% of all purchases made with PPL transport.

"We believe that the service therefore has great potential," says Horák. "Only in a few countries are cash-on-delivery packages as popular as in our country. This way we want to simplify the way for our customers to send and pay for parcels securely, even between private individuals.”

To send a package, just fill out this web form, print a label, pay online and drop the package at the nearest PPL ParcelShop or order a pick-up by the driver. The price of the cash on delivery service is CZK 30, now with promo for only CZK 19. The price of sending the package as such starts at CZK 99. For more information see the PPL website.
