So people can order a free pickup of face masks by a driver from their doorstep. The minimum number that can be sent is 30 face masks. However, PPL will urge everyone, when handing over parcels, to cover their nose and mouth. According to their statistics, 18% of people still open their doors to drivers without a face mask.

By introducing this service, PPL wants to help all those who want to distribute homemade face masks to those places where there is still a lack of them. Charita Česká republika alone lacks about 8,000 face masks at this time for their workers and those they help.

Everyone can help

To order the pick-up of face masks just simply complete the form at (bit.ly/rouškyproPPL) and the PPL Facebook pages. The face masks need to be wrapped up as an ordinary parcel in a cardboard box.

“Our drivers and employees have been working at full capacity in the last few weeks. But we want to use our network and help responsibly where it is needed the most. By picking up the face masks directly from people, we can distribute them quickly and replenish stocks where they are now lacking,” explains Petr Horák, Managing Director PPL CZ s.r.o. “Just let us know where to pick up the face masks, which organisations to deliver to and how many there will be. Our drivers will pick them up in the next few days and deliver to the place in question. This may be a local polyclinic or retirement homes,” adds Horák.

8,000 face masks for the most at risk

One of the organisations that is asking the public for face masks is Charita ČR, which annually cares for 40,000 patients in the highest risk age groups. The vast majority of them are patients in home healthcare that are regularly visited by nurses. The nurses now lack protective aids, as do the patients and their families. Currently Charita needs about 8,000. On its web pages PPL will keep a count of how many face masks Charita still lacks.

“We are grateful that people are offering to make face masks at home and we will get them more easily with the help of PPL. Thanks to this, face masks will get to those who are unable to or simply cannot make them themselves. These are often the elderly or sick patients who are the most vulnerable and need our help,” explains the national emergency coordinator of Charita Česká republika, Martin Zamazal.

A fifth of people open the door without a face mask

PPL also wants to appeal to all recipients or senders to follow all hygiene measures when handling parcels. “Our internal survey showed that 18% of people still open their door to our drivers without a face mask. This way they can not only endanger the drivers but also themselves. For these purposes we have created a video in which we want to show how best to protect our own and drivers’ health,” adds Petr Horák. People should try to pay e-shops for goods in advance, wash their hands even after delivery of a parcel, keep at least a 2-metre distance from the driver and cover their nose and mouth with something, ideally a face mask.
