PPL CZ will open a new central depot in Hradec Králové in autumn

The strategically located facility near the D11 motorway will ensure sufficient capacity for PPL customers and faster connection to its transport network throughout the year and in high season. It will also improve accessibility and connectivity to DHL's European network and other foreign markets.

"The convenient location of the transshipment facility with good access to infrastructure and transport connections to the D11 motorway is an advantage that multiplies the capacity of PPL's transport network and helps to optimise our distribution routes," explains PPL CZ CEO Petr Horák , adding that the new central transshipment facility, unlike the regional operations, ensures efficient interconnection of all points in the network and complements the only central transshipment facility near Prague, in Říčany - Jažlovice. "The capacity of the existing transhipment facility in Jažlovice is at its maximum 15,000 parcels per hour is exceeded every day. In addition, the facility is at its capacity limit without the possibility of future expansion," Horák comments on the reasons for opening the new transshipment facility. 

The new logistics centre will use a fully automatic sorting line, which will exceed the capacity of the Prague central transshipment facility in live operation. The new technology will help to reduce transport time and efficiently sort parcels going to Parcelshops and Parcelboxes. Thanks to the sufficient capacity of the centre, it will also be possible to deploy a second, afternoon delivery wave. "A high degree of automation and uncompromisingly safe operation with adequate social facilities for the staff guarantees our partners and customers consistently high quality and reliability of our services. By shortening the travel distances between our distribution centres and customers, we will also effectively reduce CO2 emissions," says David Voznička, PPL's Chief Operating Officer,of the positive aspects of the new centre.

There are 80 parking spaces for cars and more than 330 spaces for internal container parking in the depot. The high capacity of the truck parking areas will not burden the surrounding infrastructure. There are also facilities for drivers in a separate brick building with kitchen and sanitary facilities. The complex is not located near residential zones, but on the other hand, its location in close proximity to the regional cities of Hradec Králové and Pardubice will allow better accessibility for service personnel.
